Different Types Of Truck Cabs

Pickup trucks are vehicles with quite long history, as they have been first-time introduced by the automotive industry in 1913 and they are still a popular auto choice, especially for the Australians and the Americans.

Today, the pickup is mostly used as a passenger car and it is also considered a ‘lifestyle vehicle’. But, using the pickup for work purposes is not an exception too, due to the enclosed cab it has that provides a vast cargo area, perfect for light-duty tasks. Different brands and models of pickups can be commonly seen on the streets and highways in Australia and New Zealand, so keep reading and find out how pickups differ, or better said, what makes them different one to another.

Usually, it is the truck’s cab that brings the greatest change and difference to а pickup, as there are three main truck-cab choices:

  • Regular Cab;
  • Extended Cab;
  • Crew Cab.

Regular Cab

Normally, the regular truck cab features two or three seats in a row. These pickup trucks have no rear doors and no rear seats, so the truck’s window comes right behind its seats. Since every type of pickup cab has its own pros and cons, the biggest advantage of the regular pickup cab is price. Hence, this type of truck cab is least expensive of all three cab-models, but on the other hand, it is not that practical, due to limited seating space. For example, this model of truck cab is ideal for pickups used on farms and other rural areas, but when it comes to daily driving in towns and cities with more people within the truck, the regular cab is out of option.

Extended Cab vs. Crew Cab

To ensure a comfortable family seating inside the pickup, you should consider either an extended cab or a crew one. But, how to choose what models suits the best to your needs? For example, if you need a large seating space and high-level of practicality, then you definitely need a pickup with an extended cab, since the size of the crew cab does not offer much comfort and seating space for larger families. Moreover, if you look for bigger enclosed storage capacity, an extended cab will perfectly do the job. Crew cabs on the other hand, are ideal for frequent passenger drivings, but they tend to be more expensive than extended cabs.

One of the latest trends lately are the dual cab trucks that are also a costly investment if bought brand new, but you can make a perfect bargain if you opt for dual cab trucks for sale. You can find branded and versatile dual cab trucks for sale on the online market that come at pretty attractive and affordable prices.

Different Types Of Aluminium Fabrication

After iron, aluminium is the second most utilized metal in the entire industry. Being the most abundant metal in Earth’s crust, aluminium has amazing properties that make it perfect for use in different industries. As a chemical element, aluminium belongs to the Boron group of elements, with atomic number 13 and symbol Al. It’s properties include: low density (1/3 that of steel), low weight, high strength, superior malleability, easy machining (a lot of machining processes can be performed on it), excellent corrosion resistance, good thermal and electrical conductivity, and, it can be recycled.

Aluminium-Fabrication-2

Aluminium fabrication covers a number of processes whose main purpose is to weld and assemble pieces for more complex machines or systems. Mainly, marine, transportation and manufacturing industries use aluminium fabrication services. All of the following processes fall under aluminium fabrication:

Aluminium-Fabrication-1

  1. Sawing – sewing aluminium is done faster than sewing steel, since higher sewing speeds can be achieved with aluminium than with steel. Sewing most aluminium alloys is a very economic and advantageous option because of the higher speeds achieved.
  2. Deburring – the method of removing small cap or extrusion burrs using a mechanical brush or a grinding machine is called deburring.
  3. Milling – another method of aluminium fabrication is using milling machines, which have larger teeth pitches than the equivalent machines for fabricating steel. These also need higher cutting speeds for achieving best results.
  4. Drilling – like other aluminium fabrication methods, drilling should be carried out at higher speeds, especially with softer alloys. The important thing to remember here is that with drilling, the hole will be slightly larger than the diameter of the bit. To avoid contracting of the hole due to the large amount of heat released during drilling, cooling is essential.
  5. Turning – turning aluminium should be done at high speeds of rotation. The pieces to be turned during this aluminium fabrication procedure, should be fitted securely to avoid vibration.
  6. Tapping – heat treatable alloys give the best results in threading (tapping). Internal and external threads can be made through plastic deformation. Mainly, taps for steel can be used for threads under 6 mm, and for larger ones, special taps should be used.
  7. Shearing – press work is carried out through eccentric presses using a cutting tool. Punching and dying a hardened tool is recommended.
  8. Insulating – aluminium has a high coefficient of thermal conductivity, which is not so good for applications where low heat transfer is needed, like in windows. There are many ways of insulating: one includes filling polyurethane in the empty space between the pressed extrusions. The other two popular ways include polypropylene or poly-amide strips. In this way colours can be used on the inside and outside of the windows.
  9. Plastic forming ( bending/stretching) – as a method of aluminium fabrication, plastic forming includes several processes: draw bending, which is used in most cases; roller bending , which is used for creating large radii in the work piece; stretch bending, which offers very high three dimensional shape accuracy; and press bending, mainly used for bending of large series.
  10. Hydroforming – this is a unique aluminium fabrication procedure where you can shape aluminium three-dimensionally in a single process. Single part can be created with excellent dimensional accuracy.

Different Types Of Commercial Trucks

Commercial trucks are considered one of the most impressive vehicles in industries of the modern day. No matter if used for daily cross-continental hauls or for performing heavy-duty-work industry tasks, it is an undeniable fact that commercial trucks play a vital role in the industry (economic) development.

light-commercial-vehicles

Normally, these types of massive vehicles are classified as light duty, medium duty and heavy duty commercial trucks, according to their GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). But, let’s take a closer look at the specific types (models) of commercial trucks and their specifications.

  • Truck – We all know how conventional trucks look like. They are massive, large and powerful, particularly designed to transport heavy loads (cargo). As commercial trucks, they can be configured to mount specialized equipment, similar to suction excavators, concrete mixers and fire trucks.
  • Semi-Trailer Truck – A special type of commercial truck, which is in fact, a combination of a tractor unit and one or multiple semi-trailers. The main purpose of the semi-trailer truck is again, transportation of cargo. The semi-trailer is attached to the tractor unit and it is the tractor unit that carries the heavy loads. This type of commercial trucks is widely used in Europe, Australia and United States in almost all industries.
  • Tow Truck – This is a type of commercial truck usually used to haul in vehicles in case of an accident. Tow trucks are also used to move disabled or improperly parked vehicles. According to the Australian Tow Truck Act that is in full-force in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, tow trucks are identified by number plates which end in “TT”. Tow trucks are also called wreckers, breakdown trucks and recovery vehicles.
  • Box Truck – Its size varies from 4 to 7 meters in length and this type of commercial truck usually has a rear door that rolls up. This is actually the cargo area. Box trucks are mostly used to haul furniture appliances, usually in cases of moving-in and moving-out.
  • Flatbed Truck – An interesting model of truck that has no roof and no sides. The flatbed truck has an entirely flat, ‘bed body’, which makes it perfect transportation solution for heavy loads that require more space than the ‘closed-body’ trucks can provide.
